American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Student Chapter (AAPD)  seeks to raise community awareness and help bring solutions to a rising health crisis in Iowa: dental disease among children. The AAPD provides free oral health screenings to children of all ages, performs educational skits and demonstrations, and distributes toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other dental supplies.

American Association of Dental Research (SRG) is the local student chapter of the American Association of Dental Research. The group functions to unite students interested in dental research. Its goal is to provide both a means for students to become more acquainted with the status of current research, and to promote and guide student research interests. 

The American Association of Public Health Dentistry (AAPHD) Iowa student chapter (also known as the “Dental Public Health Club”) works to promote awareness of current dental public health issues among dental professionals and the community, through monthly meetings and speakers and other activities. The Club provides students opportunities to travel to St. Luke's in Cedar Rapids to observe a public health dental setting, to participate in the Johnson County school-based screening and referral, education, fluoride varnish, and dental sealant program, and to participate in other inter-disciplinary community outreach programs for screening and referral, education, and fluoride varnish placement.  The Club also provides selected students the opportunity to take elective public health/dental public health courses and earn “Distinction in Dental Public Health.”

American Association of Women Dentists (AAWD) is a club focused on getting connected to other women pursuing dentistry and learning about the experiences women have practicing dentistry in multiple disciplines.

Christian Dental Association (CDA) provides dental students with a place of support and fellowship. The CDA is non-denominational and welcomes all students.

Class Officers Each dental class elects a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, and a Representative to IASDA. These individuals meet periodically with members of the faculty and administration to discuss any problems that may arise during the year. They also plan various class activities that range from fundraisers to planning parties

Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity is one of 33 Delta Sigma Delta chapter across the U.S. and provides opportunities for study group support, social events, and community service programs.

Hispanic Student Dental Association provides an opportunity for all students to practice their Spanish skills and offers Spanish classes that emphasize dental vocabulary.

Iowa American Student Dental Association (IASDA) is Iowa's branch of the American Student Dental Association. ASDA was established to connect, support and advance the needs of students pursuing a career in the field of dentistry. IASDA simultaneously serves as the student government at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and represents students while working with the administration and the university. IASDA hosts student-body wide events and sponsors student trips to leadership conferences.

Iowa Prosthodontics Club The Iowa Prosthodontics Club is a student-run organization with a focus in the specialty of Prosthodontics. The purpose of the organization is to create a resource for University of Iowa dental students interested in pursuing additional knowledge in the dental specialty of Prosthodontics. The organization is focused on more advanced topics within the specialty including possible hands-on workshops, lecture series, application process for residency, and providing a forum for members to meet and discuss topics with residents, faculty, and other students. Overall, the goal of the Iowa Prosthodontics Club is to serve as a resource for students with a collective interest in pursuing a career in the specialty and to promote beneficial dialogue between students and faculty.  There is an opportunity to join with the American College of Prosthodontics, ACP, where the student can get access to many of the benefits they have to offer. 

Orthodontics Interest Club is a student-run organization seeking to provide students interested in specialization greater exposure to Orthodontics as a specialty. The organization is focused on information regarding residency application, orthodontics research, lectures from faculty, and possible hands-on sessions. Our goal is to give individuals a resource to investigate what life as an orthodontist is like and allow students to see if this specialty is for them. Students in the club will have opportunities to network and speak to other students and faculty interested in orthodontics.

Periodontics Interest Club (PIC) is a student-run club seeking to give University of Iowa College of Dentistry students interested in pursuing specialization a closer look into the field of Periodontology and provide networking opportunities. Members will have the opportunity to attend lectures from periodontal residents and periodontists (faculty and/or practicing clinicians), hands-on sessions (e.g., suturing exercises), forums to meet and discuss current topics, and informational meetings for the application/match process. 

Student Advisory Board (SAB) at the College of Dentistry is a newly founded student group whose purpose is to advocate for student success, mental, and physical wellbeing and to empower students to utilize resources promoting these aspects. The SAB works in tandem with the Counseling Office at the COD.

Student National Dental Association supports the academic and social environment of minority students in the field of dentistry. SNDA strives to establish opportunities for its members to develop stronger alliances amongst one another while developing a sense of community, aiding in the advancement of minority students within the field of dentistry and the community. SNDA also has a strong dedication towards the community via outreach projects and community service and strives to identify variables that contribute towards the healthcare gap in underserved communities and work to bridge the gap to those communities.

Tau Sigma Military Club is a valuable resource for dental students who currently receive military scholarships and those who plan to. This club helps students’ network with current and former military dentists, gain information about military careers and life, and provide outreach and support to local veterans.
