Departmental Mission

The Department of Preventive and Community Dentistry serves Iowans through teaching, research, patient care, and professional service. We do this by preparing future and current dentists to understand and recognize:

• Conditions that psychologically, medically or physically affect dental patients;
• Ethical, cultural, and community influences that affect dental practice;
• Preventive dentistry for individual patients and population groups; and
• Preventing and treating oral disease among older adult patients and those with special needs
