Dr. Xie joined the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 2017. Before coming to Iowa, Dr. Xie was a faculty member (Assistant, Associate and Full Professor, 2005-2017) and Director of Biostatistics Shared Resource (2008-2017) in the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center and Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Dr. Xie leads the Division of Biostatistics's efforts toward productive collaborative research. He provides oversight and prioritization for state-of-the-art biostatistics and bioinformatics support and encourages innovative methodological application and development in dental and biomedical research. Dr. Xie integrates translational scientific principles into the clinical protocol review process and leads the statistical course design in the College of Dentistry's training curriculum.
Dr. Xie's teaching includes Conceptual Biostatistics for the Clinical Investigator, Biostatistics Methods, Statistical Methods in Biomedical Research, and Diagnostic Tests.
Dr. Xie's research interests focus on biostatistics and bioinformatics methodologies and their application to collaborative research projects between biomedical and clinical disciplines. He has authored and co-authored over 120 peer-reviewed publications in the field of biomedicine, biostatistics and bioinformatics.
Dr. Xie is a member of the American Statistical Association, the International Biometric Society (ENAR), the Society for Clinical Trials, and the American Association for Dental Research. He is also an editorial board member of Scientific Reports and reviewer for over 15 scientific journals.
