Project SEALED (D3 Year)

Project SEALED is a partnership between the University of Iowa, the College of Dentistry and the Allamakee County school system. The goals of the project are to offer oral health care for underserved children in Allamakee County and provide a service learning experience for dental students. Competitive grant funding was received from the UI Provost's Office to purchase dental supplies and equipment as well as support the coordinator's salary. Allamakee County provides renovated school rooms for the oral health care visits. Students provide their own transportation while the College provides four meals and lodging. Preventive services offer screening exams, cleanings, sealants, and fluoride varnish. Between 90 and 130 children are seen over two days, depending on their age and the number/type of procedures.
