Department of Preventive & Community Dentistry - ADJUNCT CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR

Experienced hygienists needed to teach Preventive Dentistry skills to first year dental students.  The Department of Preventive & Community Dentistry at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry is searching for individuals to teach preventive dentistry skills to first year dental students on Thursday afternoons (1-5pm) during  spring semester (January through June, 2018).   Note, some Tuesday afternoon clinic sessions are also available in May-June. 

Most individuals who serve in this adjunct faculty capacity work part time in private practice and are interested in sharing their expertise in a different setting and build a teaching portfolio.    Individuals will provide clinical instruction and supervision for first year dental students as they learn basic patient assessment and preventive treatment skills (probing, soft tissue exam, caries risk assessment, patient education, calculus detection, scaling and polishing teeth).   The students see each other as patients first, then later in semester recall and new patients.   Must be able to effectively use the College of Dentistry electronic patient patient record system (AxiUm); training will be provided.  Current Iowa DH license/CPR certificate required.    BS degree preferred.   Annual online training required for following compliances: HIPAA, OSHA/Infection control, and computer security, as well as Sexual Harassment in the Workplace.  For more details, please contact marsha-cunningham@uiowa.edu.


Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

The University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry is conducting a search for a full-time tenure-track faculty member in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.  This is an outstanding opportunity to lead an interdisciplinary research program. The department offers excellent clinical and research opportunities in oral and maxillofacial repair, bone regeneration, TMJ and pain management, tissue engineering, materials and biomaterials integration and bioprinting research. The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery resident program is internationally recognized with strong hospital-based components, state-of-the-art facilities in both the School of Dentistry and University Hospitals, and is affiliated with the Carver College of Medicine.  The Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Department has historically played, and continues to play, strong leadership roles by providing research and academic direction to their discipline. Current departmental research themes include clinical, translational, and basic science research in craniofacial developmental, skeletal biology, genetics, tissue engineering, and treatment outcomes. In addition, numerous opportunities are available for collaboration within the School of Dentistry, Iowa Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, The Craniofacial Anomalies Research Center, and the University of Iowa community.

Department of Periodontics

Iowa Institute for Oral Health Research

The University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry is conducting a search for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in the Iowa Institute for Oral Health Research.  Major responsibilities include:  collaborating with dental investigators in development, execution, and report of clinical, basic science, translational, and population-based research, with involvement in research, teaching, mentoring, and service.  Will conduct independent methodological research that can be directly applied to dental research.   The position is available July 1, 2018.  Applicants must have:  PhD in Biostatistics, or PhD in Statistics with significant emphasis in biomedical applications, related post-doc training preferred; track record or productive independent and collaborative research; track record of effective conduct of research as part of a multidisciplinary team; evidence of effective teaching; effective biostatistics consulting skills; experience working effectively in a diverse environment; excellent written and verbal communication skills; and effective interpersonal skills.  Desirable qualifications include experience:  participating in externally-funded grant projects; teaching health science student biostatistics and research design; mentoring student research; analysis of high-dimensional data; and statistical genetic analysis/analysis of data from genetic epidemiology investigations. Department of Orthodontics
