Students, faculty and staff are invited to the activities, and to attend the evening reception and awards banquet. NOTE: D1-D3 classes and clinics will be closed this year. D4 students who are participating in Research Day, please sign up with the Office of Student Affairs as soon as possible.  The Office of Student Affairs will then notify course/clinic instructors.

Our Keynote Speaker

Keynote Address:  Visions for the Future of Dental, Oral and Craniofacial Research

E. Dale Abel, MD, PhDRena D’Souza, D.D.S., M.S., Ph.D.  (University of Utah, USA) is Professor of Dental Sciences, Neurobiology & Anatomy and Pathology. She currently serves as Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and Education for the Health Sciences. As a clinician-scientist, D’Souza has been strongly committed to discovery and mentoring throughout her academic career. She is a past president of the American Association for Dental Research (or, AADR) and the current President of IADR, a global organization of over 11,000 members from over 100 countries. 

Dr. D’Souza has authored over 150 publications and book chapters and has maintained an active research program for over 30 years through grant awards from the National Institutes of Health and other agencies. She has also led two major NIH-funded institutional grants that supported the research training of dentists and dentists-scientists at the predoctoral and postdoctoral levels. She received the 2002 Distinguished Scientist Award from the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the Presidential Award for Research Excellence from the Texas A&M Health Science Center in 2010. She was also inducted into the German National Academy of Sciences in 2012. Dr. D’souza was recognized as the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine’s Birnberg Research Medal in 2016. Dr. D’Souza was nominated as Fellow of the AADR and received its 2017 Irwin D. Mandel Distinguished Mentoring Award.

  • TEXT: Text is preferred in Microsoft Word. PowerPoint is acceptable.
  • IMAGES: It is preferable to submit high-quality original images/illustrations that have not previously been embedded in PowerPoint or Word. If these original images are unavailable except in embedded form, we will accept them in PowerPoint or Word, but some quality compromises may be necessitated. Images taken from the web usually are not acceptable.
  • ABSTRACT: Abstract and abstract number (for poster) needs to be supplied by presenter when possible.
  • Work on your poster WILL NOT BEGIN until you have come in person with your materials on a thumb drive to Kasey or Pat.

Banquet Information

All AADR members, research staff, and students involved in dental research are invited to attend the awards banquet and buffet dinner on Tuesday, February 12th, 2019, that will be held at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center. Cocktails (cash bar) and conversation will begin at 5:00 PM and dinner will begin at 6:00 PM.

If you submitted an abstract and you are participating in any of the awards categories, your attendance is required at the banquet for the presentation of the awards.

Please fill out the Banquet PDF form and return a hard copy of this form with a check, payable to The University of Iowa, to Sharon Seydel (N418) by Monday, February 4th, 2019.
