100% Dental Assistant II – Pediatric Dentistry – Req #021919

Under general or direct supervision, per Iowa Dental Board rules, performs chairside duties in assistance and carries out all functions which a dental assistant is legally certified to perform as delegated by the student or faculty dentist.  Performs responsibilities in an environment that includes faculty, grad and dental students.  Employee will rotate through Pediatric Dentistry clinics in the College of Dentistry, Center for Disabilities and Development, UIHC and outreach clinics.  An advanced starting salary possible based on exceptional qualifications.  Requires:  By time of appointment, current certificate of registration to practice as a dental assistant issued by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners; current Iowa certificate of proficiency in dental radiography; and successful completion of an ADAA Dental Assistant program or two years of chairside dental assistant experience assisting in four-handed method of dentistry.   HIGHLY DESIRABLE: experience with children; and fluency in Spanish. Assist and work with dentists, dental students and dental hygienists.  Provide chairside dental assistance to faculty and graduate dental students in treatment of dental patients. Interacting with patients, assisting with the management of patients, training dental students in operation of the clinic, developing radiographs, and chair-side dental assisting. To assist with a randomized clinical trial assessing silver diamine fluoride in preventing cavities in young children. The main duties involve working with research subjects during their visits. This includes obtaining proper informed consent from the parents, completing parent interviews, assisting with dental examination recording, and other various aspects of the research visit. This position also deals with other various office duties, including assembling subject packets, data entry, preparing subject mailings, updating the subject database with current contact information and other duties as assigned.  REQUIRES:  Bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene, public health, epidemiology, social sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible work experience; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and Flexible schedule to include some evening and weekend hours, available to travel to satellite locations in Iowa.  DESIRABLE:  6+ months of progressively responsible experience in a research environment including the following skillsets - RESEARCH – Working Experience; RESEARCH ANALYSIS – Working Experience; and Medical/Dental Research – Working Experience.  Also, desirable - Accuracy and Attention to Detail – Working experience; Demonstrated ability to work independently; Experience in the conduct of social science oral health research; Experience in the conduct of social science research in a clinical research setting; Demonstrated experience working with the general public; Knowledge of medical terminology; Knowledge of dental terminology; Spanish language fluency; and Comfort working with biological samples.  Salary:  $18,843-37,686 to commensurate.  For more information and to apply, go to:  http://jobs.uiowa.edu, reference Req #73023Advertising:  06/20/2018 – 07/04/2018.
