Orthodontic Staff
Our staff team at the University of Iowa Orthodontics Department contributes greatly to the education and clinical service mission of the department. Staff members support all areas including assisting with patient care along with faculty and residents, attending to the orthodontic business office, coordinating appointment schedules at the front desk and fabricating orthodontic appliances in our laboratory.

Dental Assistants
Clinical dental assistants are a crucial part of our department. These assistants are tasked with assisting faculty with dental procedures and help patients and faculty with treatment.

"I grew up in small town Walford, IA, and have been an orthodontic assistant for 4 years. I just recently joined the U of I College of Dentistry Orthodontics in January of 2023. I enjoy watching patients get excited as their smiles get straighter throughout their braces experience, and for fun I do jigsaw puzzles and spend time with my 2 cats."

My husband Bob and I keep busy with our 3 children: Brielle, 7, Nichole, 6, and Nile, 4. In the summer we like to spend time near and on the water as much as we can and love to cheer on the Hawks come football and basketball season!"

"I grew up in Drakesville - a very small town of less than 200 people in Southeast Iowa. I have been apart of the orthodontics department for 4 years as of August, 2022. I like the fast pace of work in the lab and using 3D printing technology every day! I also enjoy creating new productivity strategies to improve digital workflows within the Orthodontics department. I earned my BFA from the University of Iowa and my MFA from Utah State University in studio art ceramics. I own a small business making miniature pottery for dollhouses!"

"I spent most of my younger years in Fairfield, Iowa. I started working for the University of Iowa COD orthodontics department at the beginning of September 2014; so about 8 years. I get a lot of satisfaction from the work I do when I am told that an appliance I have made worked & fit well; that lets me know that particular appliance will help the patient get through their treatment successfully. In my free time, I really enjoy watching sports, sampling various craft beers, & most of all, playing live music in various ensembles & various genres. I play mostly percussion, but also guitar & piano.

"I lived in California, until moving to Iowa City in 2018, with my husband, 2 kids, a family friend, & a cat (who was less than enthused about the long car ride). I started my career in Orthodontics in 1990, as a chairside assistant, & was fortunate enough to work in the same office for 28 years, until our move to Iowa. After moving, I continued working as an orthodontic assistant, and a medical receptionist, until joining the UI orthodontic team as a lab tech in March, 2023. I love orthodontics and am excited to begin this next chapter of my career learning about all things ortho lab! I enjoy coming to work and being surrounded by such an awesome team of people who are passionate about their field. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time outside, exploring Iowa’s small towns & antique shops, watching documentaries, & reading."
