Congratulations to our 2020 College of Dentistry Seed Grant Award Recipients

The University of Iowa College of Dentistry is pleased to announce the results of its inaugural seed grant initiative. These grants fund innovative projects from early-career investigators or established investigators who are developing a new line of research. The goal of these grants is to encourage research and generate data that will enable the awardees to be competitive for peer-reviewed national funding agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health.

Dean David Johnsen said of the seed grant initiative, “This is truly a great way, perhaps the best way to invest our financial resource to promote College of Dentistry research and to support our faculty scholarship development.”

Each 2020 Seed Grant proposal was reviewed and evaluated by the College of Dentistry Research Proposal Advisory Panel (RPAP).

The chair of the panel, Dr. Robert Cornell, said, “All the proposals are solid and have great potential to compete for external funding!”

Associate Dean for Research Jin Xie added, “With the dedication of these 11 outstanding research teams and the seed grant funding, I have no doubt that all of these proposals will turn into highly competitive submissions for external funding!”

The award amounts for the 11 grant and incentive recipients was based on the panel’s review and scoring of the proposals, the requested budget, and the available funds.
