Dr. Southard joined the College of Dentistry in 1990 as an assistant professor. He became head of the Department of Orthodontics in 2002.
Dr. Southard's classes include Problems, Control Theory, Biomechanics, Advanced Orthodontic Technique, and the Orthodontic Seminar. Dr. Southard is also the graduate program director in Orthodontics.
Dr. Southard participates in the orthodontic practicum.
Dr. Southard research activities include computer-based imaging; biomechanics of orthodontic treatment; jaw, dental implants, and dental function; and orthodontic treatment relapse.
