Financial aid for the D.D.S. Program

Due to the intensity of their studies, dental students are not encouraged to hold a job during the first two years of their academic program. Students seek financial aid in many places; major sources of support include parental assistance, accumulated savings, the income of working spouses, part-time jobs, scholarships, and loans.

Eligibility for financial aid is based on need established by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who have been admitted to, or who are currently enrolled in the College of Dentistry, are eligible to apply for financial aid.

Students may receive Perkins Loans, and Stafford/Ford Loans. The loans are repayable over an extended period of time after you complete your course of study. In addition, loans are available from private sources through the College of Dentistry. Scholarships are available from the U.S. Navy.

In addition, a number of awards are available through the Dental Student Research Program to qualified dental students.

Up-to-date information on scholarships and loans available to dental students may be obtained from the Office for Student Affairs in the College of Dentistry (The University of Iowa, 311 Dental Science Building N, Iowa City, IA 52242-1010) or the Office of Student Financial Aid (The University of Iowa, 208 Calvin Hall, Iowa City, IA 52242-1315).
