By: Dan Whitney, D3 The cover of the January 2007 JADA features an article regarding sugar intake and caries rates in children. Without even opening the plastic wrap around the magazine, I had a sneaky suspicion that this might have something to do with the infamous Iowa Fluoride Study. Sure enough, page 39 of the issue boasts an article by not only one, but five stellar Iowa researchers: Dr. Teresa Marshall, Dr. Julie Eichenberger-Gilmore, Dr. Michelle Larson, Dr. John Warren, and Dr. Steven Levy. Kudos to all involved in the Iowa Study that has been and continues to be so productive and so enlightening to the dental community! This month’s issue of JADA also includes Volume 2 Issue 1 of the highly anticipated ‘Professional Product Review’. For those not familiar with the Review, it was launched last summer by the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs to replace the old ADA seal of approval for professional-use products. Each issue provides research, review, expert opinion, suggestions, and practitioner surveys regarding various dental products; thus attempting to bridge the gap between those just looking for “the bottom line” and those interested in making solid, researched-based decisions in their practice. This month’s issue discusses bonding agents, electric handpiece systems, and local anesthetic delivery systems. |
