http://www.aamc.org/students/medstudents/overseasfellowship

I call your attention to the FIC/Ellison Overseas Fellowship Program, an exciting clinical research training experience for graduate level U.S. students in the health professions, sponsored by the NIH's Fogarty International Center (FIC) in partnership with The Ellison Medical Foundation, the NIH National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the NIH National Institute on Drug Abuse.  The Association of American Medical Colleges and the Association of Schools of Public Health are managing the program, which is beginning its fourth year. The deadline for the program is December 8, 2006.

The program offers a one-year clinical research training experience to qualified students. This is an opportunity for highly motivated individuals to experience mentored research training at top-ranked NIH funded research centers in a diverse group of countries, including Bangladesh, Botswana, Brazil, China, Haiti, India, Kenya, Mali, Peru, Russia, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, and Zambia.

Applications are currently available and are due by December 14, 2007.

http://www.iadr.org/awards/studentresearch.html

You are invited to submit research proposals for the 2008 AADR Student Research Fellowships. These Fellowships, supported by several major industrial companies, as well as by AADR and IADR Group Chapters, Sections, and members, are sponsored and administered by the AADR and have been created to encourage dental students living in the United States to consider careers in oral health research. Proposals are sought in basic and clinical research related to oral health.

Each Fellowship (the number is yet to be determined; 19 were funded in 2007) consists of a stipend of $2,100, and each preceptor receives an award of $300 for supplies. Winners will be announced at the AADR 37th Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas, April 2-5, 2008.  Cash prizes will be issued no later than June, 2008.

Upon completion of the research (must be completed within two years), acceptance of an abstract and presentation at the annual meeting, each recipient will then be awarded funds ($600) for transportation and accommodation expenses. Recipients are required to present their research at the meeting, by submitting abstracts for poster or oral presentations.

ADA Student Research Conference

The 44th annual American Dental Association Dental Students' Conference on Research will be held Spring 2008, at the  National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) and the Paffenbarger Research Center (PRC).  The University of Iowa College of Dentistry sends one student every year to this educational meeting.  The goal of this conference is to introduce outstanding dental students to scientists from the ADA, industry, NIDCR, and the ADAF Paffenbarger Research Center to raise their awareness of the wide-ranging careers available in oral health research.  Further information will be posted and sent to all student researchers announcing the opportunity in January.  Take advantage of your opportunities!

Hinman Student Research Symposium

The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry is the host for the Symposium, which is co-sponsored by the Thomas P. Hinman Dental society and supported by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, the Procter & Gamble Company, and Viral Antigens, Inc.  The program consists of scientific sessions with oral and poster presentations by dental students, a reception, the welcoming banquet with a nationally-known speaker, exhibits, tours, and awards.  The purpose of the Symposium is to honor student efforts in Dental Research.  Students will meet and exchange information with other students from all parts of the nation and receive recognition for their efforts in research.  A travel award is available to one student from each of the participating Dental Schools to defray the cost of travel to Memphis.  One additional student from each school is invited to attend with travel support from their institution.  Housing, food, and entertainment for up to two students from each dental school will be provided by the Symposium's co-sponsors.  Abstracts for this meeting are due at the end of August.  Students and mentors keep this in mind!  Contact the Student Research Office for more information.
