Brief Professional Resume:

Dr. Synan served as chief of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery section of the Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Bronx, New York, from 1990 - 1994. He was an investigator with the dental implant clinical research group and conducted research regarding the influence of implant design and surface characteristics on crestal bone resorption. Dr. Synan is currently the director of the pre-doctoral Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic at The University of  Iowa College of Dentistry.

Teaching Activities: Dr. Synan teaches Basic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; Clinical Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery; and Pain and Anxiety Control.

Clinical Activities: Dr. Synan's activities include the undergraduate and graduate clinics and the Dental Implant Clinic.

National or International Professional Appointments or Activities: Dr. Synan is an ADA accreditation site examiner and an item writer for the OMSITE examination. He is past chair and councilor for the ADEA section on Oral Surgery, Anesthesiology, and Hospital Dentistry. He is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the American Dental Association. In 2005 Dr. Synan was appointed as a member of the examination committee for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
