Brief Professional Resume:

After receiving his B.S. and D.D.S. degrees from the University of Nebraska, Dr. Fridrich completed a one-year general practice residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. He then came to Iowa for his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency and received his certificate and M.S. degree in 1987. Following a private practice experience in Honolulu, Hawaii, Dr. Fridrich returned to The University of Iowa for a career in academics. He became the graduate program director for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery program in 1993. Dr. Fridrich was appointed professor and head of the Department of Hospital Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2000.

Teaching Activities: Pre-doctoral and postgraduate teaching

Clinical Activities: Graduate and undergraduate clinics, including oral and maxillofacial trauma call. Dr. Fridrich has a special clinical interest in orthognathic and dental implant surgery.

Research Activities: Hard and soft tissue grafting, osseointegration and the atrophic maxilla, obstructive sleep apnea.

National or International Professional Appointments or Activities: Dr. Fridrich is immediate past president of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). The ABOMS is responsible for the board certification process for the surgical specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the United States. Most recently, he has been elected to membership in the American College of Dentists. Dr. Fridrich serves as a consultant for numerous professional scientific journals.
