Teaching Activities: For first-year dental students, Ms. Cunningham is course director for two preventive dentistry courses that introduce basic patient assessment. She also provides clinical supervision in the second-year preventive dentistry clinic. Ms. Cunningham has implemented Web-based patient assessment simulations for second-year dental students. At the graduate level, she directs a teaching methods & evaluation course and a clinical teaching practicum.
Clinical Activities: Ms. Cunningham participates in the faculty practice for patients in the College of Dentistry's Special Care Clinic.
Research Activities: Ms. Cunningham's research interests is educational research. She has published 20 articles in peer-reviewed professional journals, 3 text book chapters and presented over 35 abstracts at national professional meetings.
National or International Professional Appointments or Activities: Ms. Cunningham is an honorary member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Dental Society. She has received multiple teaching awards: the 2003 Excellence in Teaching Award from the American Dental Education Association, the 2003 Collegiate Teaching Award, the James H. McLeran Faculty Award and the 2006 Dental Educator of the Year Award from the Iowa Dental Alumni Association. Ms. Cunningham has served as the College of Dentistry's Council of Faculties representative to the American Dental Education Association from 2003 to the present. She was the 1999 recipient of the Special Merit Award from the American Association of Public Health Dentistry. Ms. Cunningham was editor of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry's newsletter Communique from 1984 to 2001. She is a current member of the American Dental Education Association, the American Dental Hygienists' Association and the American Association for Dental Research.
