Brief Professional Resume:
Dr. Estafanous graduated from Tanta University Faculty of Dentistry, Egypt,
in 1999 with a bachelor
of oral medicine and dental surgery (B.D.S.). He then started his residency in general dentistry in the
National Cancer Institute (NCI) of Cairo University and the Faculty of Dentistry in both Cairo and Tanta
Universities to earn his certificate in 2000. Dr. Estafanous received postgraduate training and a certificate
in fixed and removable prosthodontics from the Indiana University School of Dentistry in 2004 and his master of dental
sciences (MSD) in 2007. He was an associate instructor in the department of prosthodontics at the same university
until 2005. Dr. Estafanous pursued his fellowship training in maxillo-facial prosthetics at the University
of Chicago hospitals and earned his fellowship certificate in 2006. After concluding his training in maxillofacial
prosthetics at the University of Chicago, Dr. Estafanous joined the University of Iowa Department of Prosthodontics
as an assistant professor of prosthetic dentistry, where he is involved in research, teaching and lecturing about
fixed and removable prosthodontics for first-, second-, and third-year dental students and for graduate prosthodontics.
He also keeps an intramural private practice that focuses on esthetic implant dentistry as well as fixed, removable, and
maxillofacial prosthetics.
Research ActivitiesImmediate loading of dental implants; the physical properties of impression materials
and disinfection/microbiology -- steriolithopgraphy and rapid protyping, the physical properties of titanium alloys/
zirconia -- CAD/CAM technologies -- maxillofacial prosthetics.
Teaching Responsibilities:Dr. Estafanous is the co-director of the preclinical removable partial denture
prosthodontic course. He is also involved with teaching preclinical fixed prosthodontics; complete dentures and occusion;
the junior prosthodontic clerkship; implant prosthodontics; and graduate prosthodontics.
Clinical Activities: Dr. Estafanous keeps an intramural private practice that focuses on esthetic dentistry,
including implant restorations with and without immediate loading using CT-guided technologies, full mouth
reconstructions, and maxillofacial prosthetics.
National or International Professional Appointments or Activities: Dr. Estafanous is a member of the American
Prosthodontic Society (APS), the American College of Prosthodontics (ACP), the Egyptian Dental Association, and the
International and American Associations for Dental Research (IADR / AADR).
