Brief Professional Resume:

Dr. Hernández joined the University of Iowa College of Dentistry faculty in 2003 after working as director of the operative dentistry section at the Universidad Javeriana Dental School, Bogota, Colombia, and working in private practice for ten years. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Operative Dentistry.

Teaching Activities: Dr. Hernández is a pre-clinical instructor for the Dental Anatomy & Operative Dentistry course for freshman dental students and in August 2004 she became director of the Dental Anatomy course. She is a clinical instructor for junior dental students. She is also involved with teaching graduate students in Operative Dentistry.

Clinical Activities: Dr. Hernández is involved with the intramural dental practice in the Department of Operative Dentistry.

Research Activities: Dr. Hernández is interested in adhesive systems and their relationship to dental structures; structural changes in dentin related to caries; lined amalgams; and artificial caries formation.

National or International Professional Appointments or Activities: Dr. Hernández is a current member of the Academy of Operative Dentistry and the International Association for Dental Research.
