Dr. J. Michael Leary received his DDS from Iowa in 1968. After serving in the US Army for three years, and completing his AEGD certification, he joined Dr. LaVerne B. Eicher’s practice in Washington, Iowa. In 1975, he also became an adjunct clinical instructor at the College of Dentistry in the Department of Family Dentistry. His interest in academics was rekindled and in 1980, he became a part-time postdoctoral student in prosthodontics while continuing his private practice. In 1984, Mike completed his MS and certificate and one year later, he gave up private practice and joined the Iowa Family Dentistry dental faculty from 1985 until his death in 2008.
Dr. Leary was a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontists, a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodonists, and a member of the International and American Associations of Dental Research. He was a past state dental surgeon with the U.S. Army National Guard and a retired brigadier general of the Iowa Army National Guard.
