As the aging population of dentists in Iowa retires and communities are unable to find new dentists to take over their practices, more small Iowa communities will lack easy access to oral health care.
The College of Dentistry is in a unique position to help coordinate matching Iowa practice opportunities with dental students, residents and practice sites. With the support of a $150,000 grant from Delta Dental of Iowa, the University of Iowa College of Dentistry established the Office of Iowa Practice Opportunities.
Our mission is to promote dental practice opportunities in Iowa to College of Dentistry students and graduates in order to retain more graduates for the state of Iowa, with a focus on underserved and rural communities.
Our goal is to help coordinate the communications between Iowa communities and Iowa practicing dentists with students and graduates of the College to facilitate the retention of graduates in Iowa.
