Brief Professional Resume:
Dr. Marek joined the faculty of the College of Dentistry in 1996. She is currently
a clinical associate professor in
the College of Dentistry's Department of Oral Pathology, Radiology & Medicine and also a clinical associate professor in
the UI College of Pharmacy's Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science. In 2011, Dr. Marek became a fellow in the American
College of Apothecaries.
Teaching Activities
: Dr. Marek's teaching responsibilities at the College of Dentistry
include predoctoral and postdoctoral lectures on a variety of pharmacotherapy topics, including antimicrobial prophylaxis, intraoral effects
of drugs and therapeutic agents for mucosal disease. She is the preceptor the Pharm.D. Ambulatory Care Dental Clerkship and is the course
instructor for Clinical Practice Skills I at the College of Pharmacy.
Clinical Activities
: Dr. Marek is the manager of the Dental Pharmacy and the extemporaneous compounding laboratory. She staffs the
dental pharmacy 3-4 days per week, providing pharmacotherapy and extemporaneous compounding consultations to in-house faculty and students
and alumni. Dr. Marek formulates and provides drug products for patients and for departmental use.
Research Activities
: Dr. Marek's research interests include the formulation and development of innovative drug products to
manage head and neck pain syndromes and oral mucosal disease. She developed an alcohol-free chlorhexidine gel and is currently developing
topical treatments for the management of TMJ disorders.
National or International Appointments and Activities
: Dr. Marek is a member of the American College of Apothecaries Research
and Education Resource Center and serves on the organization's Ethics Committee.
