Brief Professional Resume:

Dr. Elvers joined the College of Dentistry in 1996. He is director of clinics and an associate clinical professor in the Department of Oral Pathology, Radiology and Medicine.

Teaching Activities

: Dr. Elvers serves as course director for Introduction to Quality Assurance for junior dental students. He also lectures about HIPAA, patient management, risk management, and record keeping to junior and senior dental students. He works with dental students in screening patients for admission and coordinates the dental hygiene program between the College of Dentistry and Kirkwood Community College. Dr. Elvers worked collaboratively with others to introduce an electronic health record to the collegiate system.

Research Activities

: Dr. Elvers' research includes a retrospective study of patients with trigeminal neuralgia. He has also been a clinical evaluator for developing computer-simulated hard tissue probing (Iowa Dental Surgical Simulation) and has provided a clinical demonstration of utilizing OSHA practice for an OSHA video that is being developed for Iowa-wide distribution.
