Brief Professional Resume:
Dr. Caplan joined the College of Dentistry in 2007. Before coming to Iowa, he was a faculty member in the Department of Dental Ecology at the
University of North Carolina School of Dentistry from 1995-2007.
Teaching Activities:
Practice of Dentistry in the Community; Oral Epidemiology; Oral Diagnosis Clinic; research mentorship for students
in the graduate program in dental public health.
Clinical Activities
: Dr. Caplan participates in the
intramural dental practice.
Research Activities
: Dr. Caplan studies outcomes related to endodontic treatment; decision-making in endodontics; relationships between
oral and systemic diseases; and evaluation of diagnostic tests.
