100% Dental Hygienist – Preventive & Community Dentistry – Req #69803

To administrate an educational and service-oriented, dental hygiene healthcare program for the elderly and the medically-compromised adult, both in a clinic and alternative care setting; and to directly provide dental hygiene services for these participants as delegated by and under the surpervision of a licensed/permitted dentist.  REQUIRES:  Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis in Dental Hygiene or equivalent; License to practice dental hygiene in the State of Iowa; Hygienists administering local anesthesia must hold a current local anesthesia permit issued by the State of Iowa; Hygienists administering nitrous oxide must meet educational criteria in accordance with the rules of the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners; and Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  HIGHLY DESIRABLE:  Experience working with medically, physically and/or intellectually compromised adults; and Proficient working with electronic health records.  DESIRABLE:  Experience educating pre-doctoral and post-doctoral dental students regarding the dental hygienist’s role in the dental healthcare team; Experience in the practice of Dental Hygiene under a Public Health Supervision Agreement for residents of Nursing Facilities, in Nursing Facilities; Knowledge of advances in the Dental Hygiene profession; and Experience working independently and maintaining an effective oral hygiene recall program.  For more information and to apply, go to:  http://jobs.uiowa.edu, reference Req #69803Advertising:  09/16/2016 – 09/30/2016.


100% (Clinic) Clerk III – Clinic Administration – Req #019117

To serve as full-time Clinic Clerk at the College of Dentistry.  To perform scheduling duties for patients seeking appointments in a dental clinic, to include screening patients, data entry, and managing provider and patient flow. Receives patients in person and on the phone, schedules appointments, prepares and reviews dental records for appointments, collects and enters scheduling and treatment data into the electronic Oral Health Information System.  Prepare and enter practitioner schedules into data base.  Requires:  20 wpm; public contact/customer service; and six months experience working in a Windows based networked database using multiple data tools.  Desirable:  some knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations; public health care experience; and experience explaining concepts. ****Position start date of 11/28/2016*****  Under general or direct supervision, per Iowa Board of Dental Examiners, perform all legally certified chair side dental assistant duties in an adult geriatric and special needs environment that focuses on the oral health needs of patients with medical, psychological, or behavioral health challenges, including the frail elderly. Perform responsibilities in an environment that includes faculty, house-staff resident, and DDS students. Responsibilities also include daily maintenance of Geriatric and Special Needs Dental Clinic supplies and instruments and working with electronic patient records. May rotate to traveling College of Dentistry Geriatric Mobile Dental Unit on location at area and/or regional nursing homes, or assist in the faculty general dental practice.   Requires:  Current certificate of registration to practice as a dental assistant issued by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners; current Iowa certificate of proficiency in dental radiography; and successful c0mpletion of an ADAA Dental Assistance program or two years of chairside dental assistant experience assisting in four-handed method of dentistry.    HIGHLY DESIRABLE:  Experience working with special needs patients and/or those who have medical, psychological, or behavioral health challenges.
