Assist and work with dentists, dental students and dental hygienists. Interacting with patients, assisting with the management of patients, training dental students in operation of the clinic, developing radiographs, and chair-side dental assisting. Will assist multiple providers. Requires: Current certificate of registration to practice as a dental assistant issued by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners; current Iowa certificate of proficiency in dental radiography; and successful c0mpletion of an ADAA Dental Assistance program or two years of chairside dental assistant experience assisting in four-handed method of dentistry. 50% - 100% Research Associate - Preventive & Community Dentistry - Req #68906
Involves both research and administrative roles. One main research responsibility is ensuring that the Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications and documents are all up-to-date, and completing any modifications that need to be done. Another research responsibility is to act as a back-up staff member for research subject visits at the Clinical Research Unit (CRU), as needed. This requires being familiar with all of the procedures at the CRU including consenting of subjects. This position also acts as the contact person for the study from other researchers, CRU staff, IRB or study staff members to deal with any questions or issues that may arise regarding conduct of the study. There are also several administrative duties with this position which include supervising staff (both Merit and P&S staff), coordinating staff schedules and requests for time off, completing performance reviews, and dealing with any other HR issues as needed. Position requires availability to occasionally assist on Saturdays and travel to satellite research locations in Iowa. REQUIRES: Bachelor’s degree (Dental Hygiene, Nutrition, Epidemiology, Public Health or related field), or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible work experience; 1 – 3 years of relevant experience in the conduct of social science research in a clinical research setting, including the following skillsets: Research – Extensive Experience - Knowledge of formal methodologies, tools and techniques for conducting research, studies and tests; Accuracy and Attention to Detail – Extensive Experience - Understanding of the necessity and value of accuracy and attention to detail; ability to process information with high levels of accuracy; Analytical Thinking – Extensive Experience - Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis and the ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve the problems in the best interest of the project; Performance Management – Working Experience - Ability to apply organization’s performance management system, practices, and tools to developing and improving individual, team, and organizational performance; and Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. DESIRABLE: Knowledge of health care and/or dental terminology; and Database management and data entry skills. Salary: $20,063 – $40,125 (depending on %-time) to commensurate.
