50% Dental Assistant II – Preventive & Community - Req #014869.
Under general or direct supervision, per Iowa Board of Dental Examiners, perform all legally certified chair side dental assistant duties in an adult geriatric and special needs environment that focuses on the oral health needs of patients with medical, psychological, or behavioral health challenges, including the frail elderly. Perform responsibilities in an environment that includes faculty, house-staff resident, and DDS students. Responsibilities also include daily maintenance of Geriatric and Special Needs Dental Clinic supplies and instruments and working with electronic patient records. May rotate to traveling College of Dentistry Geriatric Mobile Dental Unit on location at area and/or regional nursing homes, or assist in the faculty general dental practice. Requires: Current certificate of registration to practice as a dental assistant issued by Iowa Board of Dental Examiners; current Iowa certificate of proficiency in dental radiography; and successful completion of an ADAA dental assistance program or two years of chairside dental assistant experience assisting in four-handed method of dentistry. HIGHLY DESIRABLE: experience working with special needs patients and/or those who have medical, psychological, or behavioral health challenges, including the frail elderly. DESIRABLE: Certified Dental Assistant; Expanded Function Certification; 2 years dental assisting experience; ability to communicate concepts effectively; and Experience working with electronic health records.
