Biostatistics & Research Design - How to Access Statistical Assistance
FACULTY should contact Dr. Dawson (N101-9, 335-7189, firstname.lastname@example.org) regarding new projects and grant proposals, and she will provide assistance or assign responsibilities for these new efforts.
STUDENTS should contact Dr. Qian (N101-4, 335-7202, email@example.com). (This does not apply to those cases where Dr. Dawson is serving on the student’s research committee, or where other arrangements are already in place.)
We also request that faculty mentors plan to meet with the statistician at least once early in the consultation process. Since many of the students are new to research, the input of the supervising faculty member is invaluable, and frequently prevents misconceptions and wasted effort.
Special request for predoctoral students: We request that the mentor be present at the initial meeting. We have found this to be extremely helpful - it helps the project move along quickly and avoids misunderstandings caused by the student’s limited experience with research.
