Brief Professional Resume:

Dr. Stanford joined the College of Dentistry in 1992. He became associate dean for research in 2008 and was named Centennial Fund Professor of Clinical Research in 2000. Dr. Stanford also became director of the Office for Clinical Research in 2002. He holds secondary appointments in the Department of Rehabilitation and Orthopedic Surgery (College of Medicine) and the Department of Biomedical Engineering (College of Engineering).

Teaching Activities

: Dr. Stanford teaches didactically at the undergraduate level. His primary role is didactic and clinical teaching at the post-graduate level and in the oral sciences degree programs.

Clinical Activities

: Dr. Stanford is involved in patient treatment within the collegiate intramural practice, with an emphasis in implant dentistry.

Research Activities

: Dr. Stanford's main clinical research interests are implants, implant biomaterials and dental materials. He is also interested in bone biology including: biologically-mediated bone mineralization (implants), bone metabolism, osteoblasts, isolating and characterizing human osteogenic cells.

National or International Professional Appointments and Activities

: Dr. Stanford currently serves on committees of the International Association for Dental Research, the National Institutes of Health, the Academy of Prosthodontics, and the Academy of Osseointegration (AO). He is a member of the board of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP) as the director for the Education and Research Division; is a board member
of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO); and chair of the Scientific Advisory Council of the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias. Dr. Stanford is a current member of the American and International Associations for Dental Research, the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, the American Dental Association, the American Society for Cell Biology, the Orthopaedic Research Society, the Academy of Osseointegration, and the International College of Prosthodontists. He is a fellow in the Academy of Prosthodontics and also a fellow in the International Team for Oral Implantology (ITI).
