Brief Professional Resume:

Dr. Slayton joined the College of Dentistry as professor and head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry in 2008. She previously served as an Iowa dental faculty member from 1998-2002 before becoming chair of the pediatric dentistry department at Oregon Health & Science University from 2002-2004. From 2004-2008, she was an associate professor in the pediatric dentistry department at the University of Washington School of Dentistry.

Teaching Activities

: Dr. Slayton teaches both predoctoral students and pediatric dentistry residents in the clinic and classroom.

Clinical Activities

: Dr. Slayton participates in intramural dental practice in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry.

Research Activities

: Dr. Slayton's areas of research include the molecular epidemiology of dental caries (tooth decay), caries risk assessment, and genetics education in dentistry.

National or International Professional Appointments and Activities

: Dr. Slayton is an ad hoc reviewer for Evidence Based Dental Practice, Pediatrics, Archives of Oral Biology, and Special Care in Dentistry. She is a reviewer for Practical Reviews in Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Slayton is a consultant to the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry  and an examiner for the Oral Clinical Examination. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry's Scientific Program Committee and their Council of Scientific Affairs; and a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the American Association for Dental Research, and the American Dental Education Association. She serves on the Executive Committee for the Section on
Oral Health for the American Academy of Pediatrics.
