Brief Professional Resume:

Dr. Keller joined the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1988. He is a professor in the Dows Institute for Dental Research and former director of the Implant Biomaterials Research Program. In 1998, he was appointed the associate dean of the University of Iowa Graduate College and he became dean and associate provost for graduate education in 2002.

Teaching Responsibilities:

Dr. Keller has taught predoctoral and graduate classes in dental materials sciences, pathophysiology of the bone, and research methodology.

Clinical Activities:

Dr. Huber provides consultation opportunities regarding occlusal problems.

Research Activities:

Dr. Keller's research focuses on cellular and systemic tissue interactions with dental implant materials, including analysis of bone and soft tissue response to titanium implants. He is also involved in several studies investigating synthetic apatites as bone substitute materials, surface characteristics of biomaterials and their effect on tissue reactions, and mechanisms of biomedical implant fixation. He also maintains research sponsorship from a number of external grant sources. Dr. Keller is also affilitated with the International Training Program in Oral Health Research.

National or International Professional Appointments and Activities:

Dr. Keller is former president and member of the Board of Directors of the American Association for Dental Research (1995-1999); former member of the Norton M. Ross Award Selection Committee (1997); past program committee chair for the International Congress on Oral Biology, Oral Biology and Implants Section (1996-1998); former secretary (1993-1994) and vice president (1995-1996) for the Academy for Dental Materials. He is currently a reviewer for the Medical Research Council of Canada, consultant to the American Dental Association Council on Dental Materials, Instruments and Equipment; editorial consultant of the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants, a reviewer for Dental Materials, Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Journal of Biomechanics, Journal of Dental Research, and Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. Memberships include the American and International Associations for Dental Research, Society for Biomaterials, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Academy of Osseointegration.
