Brief Professional Resume:
Dr. Elangovan joined the UI College of Dentistry Department of Periodontics in 2011 after completing
his doctor of medical science at Harvard School of Dental Medicine and his postdoctoral research fellow
at the Forsyth Institute, both in Boston.
Teaching Responsibilities:
Dr. Elangovan directs Periodontics Methods II (for D2s) and muco-gingival
literature review courses (for residents). He also lectures in D1 and D3
courses.
Clinical Activities:
Dr. Elangovan teaches in the undergraduate periodontal clinic,
undergraduate comprehensive care program, and also in the periodontal
resident clinics.
Research Activities:
Dr. Elangovan's primary research focus is biomaterials and tissue engineering. He is also involved in translational and
health outcomes research pertaining to the field of periodontology and implant dentistry.

Dr. Elangovan is a past
and present member of the American Academy of Periodontology; the American Academy of Periodontology
Foundation New Century Club; the International Association of Biological and Medical Research, Boston; the American Dental
Education Association; the National Scholars Honors Society; the American and International Associations
of Dental Research; the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS); and the Tamil Nadu Dental Council, India.
