    The purpose of this program is to provide updated information regarding diagnosis and management of conditions affecting the head and neck. The program will consist of clinical differential diagnosis and management of case studies demonstrating both common and unusual conditions. This program will provide foundational knowledge as well as a critical thinking approach to diagnosis and management.

    The Chemically Challenged Dental Patient: Recognizing Causes and Treatment Effects
       -- Professor Karen Baker

    Dental patients ingest and are exposed to many chemicals on a daily basis. During this program we will explore intra-oral effects of these chemicals and learn how to recognize common culprits. We will also examine the most effective treatments for mucositis with emphasis on using what is inexpensive and easy FIRST! Finally, we will discuss recognition and treatment challenges involving patients with current or past substance abuse issues.

    Restorative and Preventive Challenges and Techniques for the Geriatric and Special Needs Patient
       -- Dr. Howard Cowen

    This program will address the unique and complex challenges the general practitioner faces when treating the Geriatric and Special Needs patient. These issues will be discussed and specific materials and techniques provided to achieve the desired goals. Cases will be presented to complement the presented material. Dentists, hygienists, and assistants who treat these populations will gain valuable knowledge and insight into the complex world of the “new” Geriatric and Special Needs patient in your general practice.
